"Commissioned by British American Oil Company as their Centennial project, the film is designed to ecourage cross-Canada tourism, particularly to some of the less well-known tourist areas. The camera follows groups of tourists as they visit the Gaspé Peninsula, the Sauguenay, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, the Prairies, Banff, the Fraser Valley and Vancouver. In order to show something of Canada's colourful past in relation to Canada today, the film is narrated with excerpts from the journals of Canadian explorers, as the tourists follow in the footsteps of the men who discovered Canada."

"Un film produit comme projet centennal pour encourager des Canadiens à voyager aux nombreuses différentes régions du pays."

Bibliography:

Online Database National Film Board of Canada.
"Novel explorations of Canada, with impressions voiced in the words of explorers of past centuries but with scenes, and travellers, very much of the present. Measured against the chronicles of the first trailblazers--Cartier, Champlain, Thompson, Fraser--the discoveries made in this film have a frequently amusing twist. Today, moving about is vastly easier, but the size and the magnificence of the country remains the same."

University of Waterloo Audiovisual Services Catalog.
"This film presents views and descriptions of popular and less well-known Canadian tourist areas and points out various aspects of our history."
