"A record of the Marian Congress held in Ottawa, June 17 to 22, 1947. The film is introduced by Cardinal Alexandre Vachon who addresses the need for a Christian peace in the wake of the Second World War. The timing of the Congress coincided with the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Ottawa Diocese. The balance of the film documents the Congress on a day-by-day, event-by-event basis. Included are shots of the opening mass; a parade with horse-drawn floats and several bands; and the final mass where 100,000 people gathered at Lansdowne Park. The film claims this was the largest gathering of high church officials outside Rome, including 120 Archbishops. Many shots of the visiting clergy are included among them: Cardinal Vachon, Archbishop of Ottawa; Cardinal D'Alton, Primate of All Ireland; Cardinal McGuigan, Archbishop of Cuba; Monsignore Antoniutti, apostolic delegate to Canada and Newfoundland; Cardinal Gerlier of Lyon, France; Cardinal Mindszenty of Hungary; Cardinal Tisserand of Rome; Cardinal Spellman of New York; Cardinal Mooney of Detroit; Cardinal Frings of Cologne; and Monseigneur Bonnabel of Gap, France."
